Signese.com is a collection of photos of Chinese characters in action. Although most are taken by myself on the streets of Beijing, many are contributions, which can be sent directly from your mobile phone.
Queries and thoughts about the photos are always welcome via the comment function.
The day I took these particular set of photos (there are three more very similar ones coming up, all of slogans on the sides of buildings) was very dull and grey. I’ve done some subtle tweaking in photoshop to liven them up a bit. For example here, I’ve increased the amount of blue in the sky. (more…)
Early on I stopped taking photos of people doing things they aren’t meant to, next to signs saying they’re not meant to - there are just too many people smoking next to no-smoking signs, parking next to no-parking signs, and as one friend commented, dancing with monkeys next to no-dancing-with-monkeys signs.
