Teaching and Administrative Staff Home

Teaching and Administrative Staff Home

I wasn’t sure if this meant ‘people who work in education’ or ‘teachers

and workers’ or what, but the dictionary says it means teaching and

admin staff.

Fascinating discourse, studentyoung. I’d suggest that “home” in English generally can convey those meanings as well – it’s not just a dwelling, but rather something a place that has a certain sort of familial feeling to it – the proverbial “home away from home,” for example. The picture is certainly not a club, and “house”, which is more structural, would give an even greater impression of a faculty and staff dwelling, I think. “相同背景的人有机会坐在一起聊天、娱乐的场所” is a metaphorical home.

Thank you, zhwj, thank you so much for your wonderful interpretations. And now I understand that ” “相同背景的人有机会坐在一起聊天、娱乐的场所” is a metaphorical home”, which is something I have never read on my dictionaries before. :-)

I hope this kind of discussion can be more, because we can have more chance to understand more on metaphorical meanings between Chinese and English vocabulary, especially those seldom seen on common dictionaries, but widely used in daily life. Of course, I hope Roddy can forgive and forget my ignorance and my boring words, if possible.

Anyway, thanks Roddy and zhwj, again! :-)
